The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) has released a series of Viewpoints on the challenges facing Japan and the Abe administration in developing a world class Internet Economy. The Viewpoints update the ACCJ’s groundbreaking White Paper on Japan’s Internet Economy released in 2009. The KICIS research team was closely involved in the drafting and translation of the Viewpoints on data protection, IT governance, spectrum and cyber security.
Regrettably progress on many of the key recommendations found in the 2009 White Paper has been slow, including on privacy, more efficient use of spectrum and reorganization of key government ministries involved with the regulation and promotion of ICT technologies. The Abe administration’s focus on cyber security is analyzed and positively evaluated in the ACCJ Viewpoint on the subject.
