Professor Hideyuki Tokuda’s areas of research include ubiquitous computing systems, smart spaces, sensor networks, distributed real-time operating systems and embedded systems.

Professor Tokuda has received the Motorola Foundation Award (1989), the IBM Faculty Award (2002), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (2004), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication Award (2005).

He graduated from Keio University in 1975 and received Ph.D in computer science in 1983 from the University of Waterloo, Canada. He served as the executive vice president of Keio University between 1997 and 2001. He directs the Ubiquitous Computing and Communications Laboratory within the Keio Research Institute.
